Kayak Carrying Recommendations for 2008 Scion xB with Thule Square Bar Roof Rack

Question:

I have a Thule roof rack with square crossbars. I need to carry 2 kayaks, probably using a J style rack. What product do you suggest. The combined weight of the kayaks will be 118 lbs. 63 + 55 Thanks

We have exactly what you're needing. I'd recommend the etrailer.com Folding Universal Mount J-style Kayak Carrier, part # e98878. This carrier includes everything you'll need, the tie down straps, the bow/stern tie downs and the anchor straps that can be shut in the rear hatch and the front of the hood to eliminate the need for hooks. These carriers are sold individually, so for both kayaks you'd need two of them.

Or, a lower cost alternative would be a single carrier that would hold the kayaks on their sides like part # MPG115MD. This style carrier takes up less roof space than using two J-style carriers, and would also include the bow/stern tie downs and the straps for securing the kayaks to the carrier itself. The anchor straps aren't included, but Rhino Rack offers an inexpensive set of 2 as part # RRRBAS-2.

The Thule Square Bar roof rack has a capacity of 130 lbs, so you'll be within that capacity.
