Converting Existing 4-Pole Trailer Connector to 7-Way for Trailer with Electric Brakes
Question:
Hi, I have a typical 4 flat connection on my vehicle and I would like to tow a trailer with 7- wire connection. How do i get the connection from Power brake on my vehicle in order to use the electric brake for my trailer? I hope you can help me with this.

You will need to install a brake controller on your vehicle to actuate the trailer brakes. Many pick up trucks and SUVs are pre-wired for a brake controller installation to some extent. If this is the case with your vehicle, there might be an aftermarket brake controller wiring harness that would allow the controller to plug into a connector located under the dash. If you would care to respond with the year, make and model of your vehicle I would be happy to provide some specifics.
In the event that your vehicle was not pre-wired, the brake controller can be hardwired using our brake controller installation kit, part # ETBC7. The kit includes an adapter to convert the existing 4-pole to a 7-way, all wire, circuit breakers and hardware to complete the install.
If you do not already have a brake controller, I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, which is very easy to use and set-up.
I will link you to the instructions for the install kit, as well as some FAQ articles and install videos that will walk you through the install process.
