How Much Clearance is Needed to Fit B and W Companion Hitch in Truck Bed with Fuel Tank

Question:

I have a 2013 Ram 2500 with the 6 3/4 bed. My issue is I have a fuel transfer tank in my bed and from the front of the bandw gooseneck ball to the tank is only 9.5”. What is the plated measurement from hitch to front of plate? Will it clear in my bed? I asked same question on the BandW brand complete fifth wheel hitch for the bandw turnover ball application. I’m trying to find something that will work, as most gooseneck adapters for fifth wheels void the fifth wheel trailers warranty.

From the center of the shank to each end of the base (forward and back) of the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3500 is 18 inches. This means that if you only have 9.5 inches of clearance from your shank to the tool box you would not have enough clearance.

The tank would have to be removed to install the Companion as-is.

How wide is your tank currently? Maybe you'd consider going with a tank that is narrower which would allow the hitch to fit.

From the center of the shank on the Demco 5th Wheel Base Rails Adapter for B and W Turnoverball # DM6140 forward to the center of the front rail measures 11 inches. This would be too far as well to fit with your tool box.
