Brake Controller and 7-Way Recommendation for 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek
Question:
Good morning, We are considering pulling an Aliner Scout Lite with our 2014 non-hybrid Subaru Crosstrek. We have a Curt 13135 and standard 4 pin connecter already installed. The Aliner Scout Lite weighs 1180 dry and requires a 7 pin connector and electric break controller. Could you help me with which parts are appropriate? Thanks,

I can absolutely help you get the right parts so you can get camping in an Aliner Scout-Lite. Since you already have the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13135 and 4-Way such as # 118467 on your 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek that leaves just the 7-way and brake controller, as you noted, and I'll give you a couple options.
The one I highly recommend is the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 because of its simplicity. This controller just plugs into the 7-way and so long as you have a smartphone you just download the app to set it up and control it. The Echo pairs smooth braking with ease of use to make it the top brake controller for our customers; its convenience makes it really hard to pass up.
To use the Echo on your '14 Crosstrek you will need to install the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation # ETBC7L.
If you want a budget-friendly option you will need to hardwire in a brake controller and for that I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 which is a reliable unit that will give you effective braking at a great price. To install this controller you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7.
