Recommended Roof Rack to Replace Factory Rack on 2012 Toyota RAV4

Question:

The factory installed roof rack only holds 100 pounds inside the rocket box. Also, when the Thule rocket box is installed, the clamps bump on the roof of the car. Is part TH711420 compatible with our car? Will it raise up the rails? What will the new weight limit be? Is there any other roof systems that you feel might be better? Were looking for a higher weight capacity than we currently have. Thanks!

The Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack that you referenced is a great option to replace the factory rack on your 2012 Toyota RAV4 and is exactly the model I recommend. For your RAV4 you will need # TH711420 for the 53 inch WingBar Crossbars in Black or # TH711400 for Silver and # TH710401 for the Evo Feet.

Thule lists a weight capacity of 165 pounds with this particular rack on your RAV4. With that being said I do still recommend verifying the actual roof capacity of your RAV4 by checking your copy of the owner's manual. You will need to follow whichever limit is lower, the roof rack's or the vehicle's.

The mounting feet for this rack will actually attach to the top of the factory side rails on your RAV4, so you will definitely get more roof-to-crossbar clearance compared to the factory bar that sits flush with the side rails. If you measure about 3-1/8 inches above the factory side rails on your RAV4 you will see where the Thule crossbars will sit.

I have attached a video demonstration that you can check out as well.
