Can Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter be Welded with the Bolts Installed  

Question:

in the instructions it says you can bolt adapter to the 5th wheel plate also have you had anyone that welded it to 5th wheel after installation for extra security not planning on every pulling with 5th wheel hitch all i have is a recessed goose neck hitch in a CM flatbed with B and W welded in ball what are you thoughts

The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter # CAB-C5G was designed to be installed with bolts but I suppose you could reinforce it by welding if you wanted to. My only problems with that is that the adapter wasn't meant to be used in that fashion and I believe you would have to remove the powder coat finish to get a clean weld. Since this is rated for 20K for towing and we haven't heard of any issues with this weight rating I would say just make sure you install it per the instructions. If you choose to take that extra step then it is you decision but it really isn't necessary.
