Best Kayak Rack for 2011 Toyota RAV4

Question:

Best kayak rack for 2011 Rav 4. I have to drive through high wind desert areas frequently Santa Barbara to Bishop, CA, via Hywy 395. Kayak is 11 ft, 28+ width. Older lady, 5’7” about 150 lbs. Fit and pretty good upper body strength. I think I prefer racks that allow kayaks to sit upright and rest in rack nests. But I am very willing to be informed. Thank you.

Thanks for the photo, that water looks pretty awesome!

In regards to the best way to carry two kayaks on your 2011 Toyota RAV4 in windy conditions you are right that the kayak carriers that allow the kayaks to sit in nests - also called J-Style carriers - are going to be the most sturdy, secure option.

The kayak carrier that is the best for this is the J-Style Kayak Carrier # E98878 because it comes with integrated load straps to secure your kayak to the carrier, and a strong aluminum frame that has a 150 lb capacity. Each carrier also comes with bow/stern and anchor straps, giving you the optimal way to secure a kayak on the roof of your '11 RAV4. I linked a video of this carrier on a test course so you can see just how sturdy and secure your kayaks will be on the roof of your Toyota.

I have also added a link to a video review of this carrier for you to take a look at.
