Troubleshooting No Trailer Brakes with OEM Controller on a 2016 Ram 3500 6.7 Cummins

Question:

2016 Ram 3500 6.7 Cummins My bed was recently replaced with a flatbed that the trailer brake connectors were pre wired. So that portion of the install was plug and play with the trucks harness. All of the lights are working, but not the electric brakes. I checked the fuse for the integrated brake module and it looks good. I tried multiple trailers and checked it with my multimeter and there is no output. I even tested the plug on the harness and I’m not getting any readings on the electric brake. Any ideas?

If you had work done on the bed of your 2016 Ram 3500 then my guess is that the brake controller wire was cut during the process. I'm not entirely sure how the integrated controller is installed on your pickup but if you have access to the wiring at the back you can try using a circuit tester like part # PTW2979 to see if it is outputting power when you use the manual override. It would also be worth checking to make sure the controller has a wire with constant power and also a wire that only receives power when the brake pedal is pressed if these don't exist then that could be the problem as well.

Aside from that the only other way around this would be to route 10 gauge wire # 10-1-1 from the pin in the 5 o'clock position on your 7-Way, back to the output wire on your controller to bypass any factory wiring that is damaged.
