Towing Capacity and Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2018 Ram 2500 Diesel
Question:
I have a 2018 RAM 2500 LARAMIE MEGA CAB 4X4 Engine: 6.7–Liter I6 Cummins® Turbo Diesel Engine Transmission: 6–Speed Automatic 68RFE Transmission 3.42 Axle Ratio. When I put the Vin in Ram’s lookup tool it says max payload is 1991.93 lbs and max towing is 15060 lbs. Then on the inside of the door it says the combined weight of passengers and cargo should never exceed 1685 lbs. Everywhere I look tells me something different so can you tell me what the max pin weight is and what 5th wheel hitch I need. It has the factory 5th wheel prep.

Locating the exact towing specs for a truck can be one of the more frustrating endeavors on the way to towing a trailer because of all the different variables involved and the seemingly countless sources of information. I tried to look up the towing capacity for your 2018 Ram 2500 based on its engine size, drivetrain, etc and came up with a different number still then what you were able to find.
For the most accurate information when it comes to payload capacity we do always refer customers to the sticker on the inside of the door that you referenced. The 1,685 pound limit that you found there is what you should go by. As for the actual towing capacity your best route is going to be to actually talk with a local Ram dealer and provide them with your VIN. From what I could find it's certainly somewhere around the 15,060 max towing number you found but having the dealer run your truck through their system should give you the most accurate figure.
