Bike Racks with High Weight Ratings
Question:
I see many bike racks says 35lb per bike. For those ones, can I put a 50 lb bike on?

Expert Reply:
Most bike racks do have a 35-lb weight limit for each loaded bike and while it might seem fine to load one 50-lb bike instead of two 35-lbs bikes this is not something most rack makers recommend because the cradles, straps and other parts that hold the bike safely may not be rated for supporting one bike that is that heavy.
Nowadays there are many racks made for heavier bikes like electric bikes, beach cruisers and fat bikes which tend to be on the heavier side. All racks for heavy bikes appear on the linked page.
For instance Thule offers a specialized 2-bike platform carrier made specifically for heavy bikes (up to 65-lbs each) which covers most electrics, their EasyFold # TH903202.
In addition to its high weight rating the EasyFold is packed with features including a loading ramp (so you don't have to lift a heavy bike to load it), foot-operated tilt, built-in wheels, included locks, and compatibility with many bike types and with Class I, II and III hitches.
