How Much Clearance Between the Frame Is Needed for a Trailer Tire

Question:

How much space is required for an ST235 80R16 tire between the tire and any adjoining structure. I recently upgraded from 15inch wheels and hubs to 16inch wheels and hubs on a custom trailer. The tire rack behind the rear tire is approximately 1inch away from the tire. The rack is rwmoveaboe, but when it is reinstalled I am looking for the proper distance to place it away from the tire.

The recommended amount of tire clearance to allow for suspension travel on virtually any trailer is 3" from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender or frame and 1" from the inside of the tire to the frame. If you need to raise the trailer so you don't have to move the tire rack we do have options for you such as the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit part # K71-385-00 or part # K71-384-00 and the Tandem Axle Lift Kit part # RR23QX. We also have options for torsion axle trailers if that is what you have as well, just let me know your axle capacity and brand.
