How To Install a Flat-Tow Wiring Harness on a 2005 Jeep Wrangler with Trailer Wiring Harness

Question:

I will be pulling my 2005 Jeep Wrangler with a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer for short trips. On my Jeep, it has a rear tow hitch wiring for a trailer and I want to keep it. I have LED headlights with built in turn signals, they are on the upper and lower of the headlights. I want to know if any of this will be a problem? Thanks for any advice.

I do have options for you but it's largely going to depend on what trailer wiring harness you have installed on your 2005 Jeep Wrangler. The best and most simple solution for you would be to just use a set of magnetic tow lights, the MaxxTow Magnetic Tow Lights part # C6304. However, we do have hardwire options for you as well.

If you have a factory trailer wiring harness then you can use the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles part # HM56202 which is a plug and play option. If you have an aftermarket trailer wiring harness then you will want to use the Tow Ready Tail Light Isolating Diode System with 4-Pole Connector part # TR118821 and splice into the vehicle's tail lights before the aftermarket trailer wiring harness.

If you don't know what trailer wiring harness you have then you can use the Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit with Bulbs part # RM-155 instead. The flat-tow trailer wiring harnesses do not splice into the head lights so yours should not be an issue.
