Do You Need A Brake Controller to Use Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller
Question:
Do you have to have a trailer brake controller in the vehichle, or does this replace it? Saw it on another site and thought it was just a way to control your brake controller with your phone.

The Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller - Wireless part # C51180 is the brake controller so you do not need a brake controller to use the Curt Echo. I can see why someone would think that though considering the Echo is so simplistic it seems too good to be true that it could replace your old brake controller. As long as you have an active 12V circuit on the vehicle's 7-way and a smart device Apple: 8.0 or newer or Android: 4.4 and newer the Curt Echo will work. Its built in inertia sensor activates the trailer brakes when it senses the vehicle braking. You can control the brake settings via a smart phone app.
