Parts Needed To Tow a Trailer or Haul a Cargo Carrier with a 2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI
Question:
Hello, I am in the market to install a tow kit for my 2015 VW Golf TDI. There are so many options and it seems to be a little overwhelming when deciding upon all items I should purchase. I would love your recommendation on all items needed to ensure the entire tow kit is ordered for towing a trailer. Im currently looking at Cargo Carrier kits that hold up tp 500lbs however, the tow hitch tongue through your site allows up to 200lbs. Not to mention the carrier is for a 2inch receiver, I believe I read yours is 1 1/4? As you can see, this is getting a bit confusing. Considering I will eventually want to have the ability of towing at least 2,000lbs, I may purchase a trailer instead. If I purchase a trailer, I noticed I would require an additional kit for wiring. Is there a kit that you offer that has everything altogether? If not, please send a list of everything you recommend. My goal is to move forward with the easiest installation for all products, as we do not have mechanics in our area that excel with VW Anything. They dont even know how to reset the tire sensor within my car, or even for an oil change. They do a great job, they just do not do well with tech, of any kind. Thank you im advance for you help!

The easiest to install trailer hitch we have for your 2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11412. The reason that this trailer hitch is the easiest to install is because you don't have to take off any part of the rear bumper fascia like you would have to for the other options available for your Golf. I have attached an install photo and video for you as well.
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver has a class I rating with a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. Therefore, you will need a cargo carrier suited for this, the 19x47 Curt Cargo Carrier part # C18110. This cargo carrier has a 300 lb weight capacity. However, you will be limited to 200 lbs due to the trailer hitch. Therefore, no matter what the weight capacity of the cargo carrier is you cannot exceed 200 lbs. The Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap part # 18050 will also be required for this setup.
In order to tow a trailer you will also need to obtain a trailer wiring harness and ball mount/hitch ball. For a trailer wiring harness, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118646 which is a custom fit so no splicing is required. For a ball mount/hitch ball you can use the Curt Class II Drawbar part # C45521, the Curt Class I and II Pin and Clip part # F-4, and the 1-7/8" Hitch Ball part # A-80 or the 2" Hitch Ball part # A-82.
