Installing Electric Trailer Brake Controller on 2005 Fleetwood Providence on Spartan Chassis
Question:
i have a 2005 Fleetwood Providence diesel pusher on a Spartan chassis and I would like to know how to hook up a new brake controller as I will be pulling a trailer. My Fleetwood has a plug under the dash that says brake on it . It is a square 6 prong female plug with 4 wires attached. Is there a plug in unit or adapter harness I can get to make the job easier? Thanks.. Jimjim courage

I think I found some information that'll help you install a brake controller, like the Prodigy P2 # 90885, but we don't carry a direct plug-in adapter for that connector you found.
From my research it is the correct connector so you've found the correct wires. You need to cut off the plug you found and test each wire for function to make sure you know which is which and then hardwire them to the controller. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2992 to test the connector you found. The wire that has power on it all the time goes to the black wire on the controller to give it power and the wire that only has power when the brake pedal is pressed goes to the red wire to signal the controller to engage the trailer brakes. The other two wires are a ground and the brake output so they won't show power. You'll need to determine which is which and connect the output to the controller's blue wire and the ground to white.
There's a couple ways you can determine which of those wires is which. The easiest is usually to match the color to the same circuit at the motorhome's 7-way going to the 7 O'clock position when looking into the connector from the outside. You can also use a battery to apply power the one of them and then test for power at the 7-way.
