Troubleshooting Hydraulic Pump of Auto Leveling System on 2014 Heartland Bighorn

Question:

I have a 2014 heartland big horn with the leveling system. While lowering the front jacks or putting the slides out, the hydraulic pump stops. After about 10 seconds it took start again. Tank level is full and new batteries installed and charged. Acts like something trips, then resets like a pressure switch. Any suggestions?

I reached out to my contact at Lippert who makes the hydraulic leveling unit on your 2014 Heartland Big Horn. They send the unit to the manufacturer with a 50 amp auto-reset circuit breaker. The manufacturer installs the wire, etc, so the gauge of wire may not be large enough for the system depending on the run, but that auto-reset breaker will also wear down with use and trip more easily as time goes on. This is likely what is happening, so I would start with the new breaker # PK54250.

If this doesn't solve your issue, then you can put a meter on the motor to check for the voltage drop when this recycling occurs. The 12V motor has up to a 100 amp draw but normal range is 40-60 amps according to my tech contact. Many of the manufacturers are now putting manual reset breakers on these systems, so you can use the Buyers Products Circuit Breaker w Manual Push-to-Trip Reset - Surface Mount - 100 Amp # 337CB100PB or # 337CB80PB for an 80 amp option which would be my recommendation. I also recommend using # 10-1-1 wire sold by the foot.
