How To Use the Yakima SwingDaddy on a 2014 Toyota Prius

Question:

I have the multi bike swingdaddy rack that Id also like to connect to my 2014 prius. The eco hitch advises a 300lb tongue limit - will this be sufficient to carry one or two high end road bikes, and will I have the ability to swing the rack system to the side if necessary? My concern is that using the articulating rack swing option might redistribute the weight in a capacity that damages the vehicle. Your thoughts?

In order to use the Yakima SwingDaddy 4 Bike Rack part Y02464 on your 2014 Toyota Prius you will have no other choice but to use the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7178 because this is the only trailer hitch with a 2" receiver tube offered for your Prius. We have not yet had the chance to test fit the SwingDaddy on a Prius but I am almost certain you will be able to open the hatch using the articulating arm.

In regards to weight capacity, the Yakima SwingDaddy weighs around 70 lbs therefore you will have 230 lbs left for your bikes which should be plenty. The individual cradles on the bike rack are only rated for 35 lbs afterall. For the articulating arm feature, you are correct in that the weight is distributed further back but I don't think this will be too much of an issue so long as you are under the trailer hitch's weight capacity. Unfortunately, Toyota does not provide any tongue weight rating for the Prius so there is not much to go off of here.

I have attached an install video on the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver for you.
