On the Thule Apex, # TH9026XT, the first benefit is that the two arms are designed to allows for the best in spacing the bikes. The Hitching Post # TH934XTR won't have quite the same spacing and has the older style cradles that won't be quite as user friendly but T3 cradles are still very functional. The Apex has the integrated locks which is another great feature.

The main obvious difference is the amount of bikes they can carry. The Apex can carry 5 bikes and the Hitching Post can only carry 4 bikes. There is a 4 bike Apex # TH9025XT if you want to compare more similar racks.

Both racks come with an anti-rattle device that reduces movement of the racks in the hitch receiver for a smoother ride. The Apex also integrates the lock where you can add the Snug Tite lock, # THSTL2 for the hitching post and then also add a cable lock like # e98891.
