How to Add a 4 and 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2011 Ford Ranger
Question:
I am buying a trailer I will tow with my Ranger, but I need a port to plug the trailer lights into. How easy is the kit for trailer lights to install? Which part should I get?

The best option I have for you to add a 4-way trailer connector to your 2011 Ford Ranger is with the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 56014. The reason that this is the best option is because it does not require any cutting/splicing, it will just plug in behind each of your taillights.
If the trailer you will be towing with your Ranger has brakes then you will also need both a 7-way trailer connector and a brake controller. For a 7-way, I recommend the Curt Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # C57186 which plugs into the 4-way you installed above but requires that you run three additional wires. There is a power wire that goes to the battery, a brake output wire that goes into the cab to the brake controller, and a ground wire that goes to the vehicle's frame.
For a brake controller, the Curt Venturer Trailer Brake Controller part # C74VV is a good cost effective option for you.
