Will Adding Aftermarket Part Increase Towing Capacity of 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Question:

Hi I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee north V6 engine, i had the dealer install a tow hitch, now I want to increase my towing capacity. By having them install a transmission cooler, 7 pins wire harness and electric brake system, will I be ok to tow 4500lbs?

Adding aftermarket parts to your 2016 Jeep Cherokee can improve your towing experience but it's not going to increase your towing capacity. Your Jeep's towing capacity is determined by Jeep based on how it is equipped at the factory and adding aftermarket parts will not change that. From my research the 2016 Cherokee without the tow package has a max towing capacity of 2,000 pounds so you can not safely tow a 4,500 pound trailer, regardless of what you have added.

Like I said orginally, the aftermarket parts will likely improve the overall towing exprience with your Jeep by making it run better and longer while using it to tow. A transmission cooler, like part # D13503, is never a bad idea to help prolong a vehicle's transmission.

You also need a 7-way and a brake controller if you're towing a trailer that has electric brakes. To add a 7-way to the Cherokee you need to start with a 4-way harness, like the Hopkins # HM11142464, and then convert it to a 7-way using our # ETBC7 kit. This gives you a fully functioning 7-way to use with a brake controller like the Curt Echo, part # C51180.
