Can B&W Patriot Mount in 2015 GMC Sierra 3500HD That Has B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck

Question:

I bought a patriot 16k for a 2008 GMC 2500HD. I used it one time to bring my 5th wheel home. I just traded my truck in and got a 2015 GMC 3500HD. It has the BandW goose neckck ball already installed. Trying to figure out the cheapest way and easiest way to make my two incompatible hitches work. If I buy a base for the companion will the head unit fit what would be the max load rating? Should I remove the gooseneck hitch and install rails. This time I will go with the custom fit bracket and rails.

The base of the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500-5W will not work with the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3200 so the most economical option is to remove the B&W Turnoverball # BWGNRK1012-5W and replace it with rails.

The correct base rails and installation kit for your 2015 GMC Sierra 3500HD are the B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # BWRVK2506; putting this kit in your truck will allow you to mount your B&W Patriot hitch.

The best option, and the simplest, is actually something different; it is selling your Patriot, keeping the B&W Turnoverball # BWGNRK1012-5W and adding the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500-5W (which is a fixed hitch for if you had an 8 foot bed) or B&W Companion with Slider # BWRVK3400-5W if you had a short bed.

The reason why this is a better option is simple: the Companion is considered by many to be the best hitch in the industry, you already have the Turnoverball gooseneck which it mounts to (which is a great hitch in itself if you ever switch to a gooseneck trailer), and since you said you only used the Patriot only once you should be able to get a good amount for it.

Installing the Companion will also save you from spending quite some time taking out the Turnoverball and installing the base rails, or paying someone to do that.

The Companion has a highly impressive jaw system that enhances the connection to your king pin, cushioned bushings which minimize the noise that often comes with towing a fifth wheel trailer, and a pivoting head which makes connecting your trailer to the hitch easier.

This jaws on this hitch are a full 1 inch thick and are the key reason why you aren't going to have to deal with the highly annoying rattling that you would otherwise have to if you were to use a hitch with a lesser jaw system. If you take a look at the accompanying photo you can see the full breadth of these jaws and why they provide an optimal connection.

In short, the most economical option is to use your current Patriot 5th Wheel Hitch and install the the B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # BWRVK2506 in your 2015 GMC Sierra 3500HD.

The easiest option that will provide you with the best hitch on the market: keep your B&W Turnoverball # BWGNRK1012-5W, sell your Patriot and get the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500-5W (long bed) or B&W Companion with Slider # BWRVK3400-5W (short bed).
