How To Use a Blue Ox Aventa LX Tow Bar On a Subaru Crosstrek with Roadmaster Base Plate Kit

Question:

Good morning !! Over the years Ive purchased a bunch of stuff from you all and have to say the service is GREAT ! Im seriously considering buying a 2019 CrossTrek to replace our Focus. The Focus has all BlueOx tow equipment and a Stay in Play Duo brake system. Im planning on swapping over the Stay in Play. I also have a Blue Ox Aventa towbar that Id like to keep. Looking at the install instructions, it appears that the Roadmaster baseplate is A LOT easier to install than the BlueOx. Is there a way to keep my Aventa towbar and use it with the Roadmaster baseplate with the removeable drawbars like the BlueOx has ? Im not a fan of the older Roadmaster setup with the crossbar. Many Thanks

It is possible to use the Blue Ox Aventa LX Tow Bar BX7445 that you have now with the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit part # RM-52927-5 which is a fit for a Subaru Crosstrek. However, in order to do so you will need the Roadmaster Tow Bar Adapter part # RM-032 which creates a crossbar between the two arms. The only way to avoid this is with the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit part # BX3622. Therefore you will need to choose between ease of installation and a clean look.

In order to use the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System part # SM99251 on your Subaru Crosstrek you will also need the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles part # RM-88400 to prevent the towed vehicle's brake signal from overriding the turn signal from the RV when applying the brakes during a turn.
