Cargo Rack for 2019 Ram 1500 with Retrax XR Tonneau for Kayak and Cargo Carriers

Question:

Hey, I have a 2019 ram 1500 crew cab with the 6.4 ft box, no ram box. I have the manual retrax xr. My plan is to put a cargo carrier on one side and a single kayak on the other. Honestly I’m not sure where to start. What t-post cross bars should I be looking at? Actually if I could ask one more question, what bed divider could I use under the retrax one xr? Thanks for your time.

The Two Retrax XR manual tonneau covers that fit your 2019 Ram 1500 6-1/2-foot bed without Rambox are parts # RTT-80245 for the aluminum version and # RTT-60245 for the Lexan version.

Both can use the Yakima JetStream Crossbar System # Y00427-482104 which features aluminum crossbars that install right in the Trax rail system you have. The 70-inch bars will give you plenty of space for both a cargo box and a kayak carrier and their quiet aerodynamic design includes built-in T-slot channels to allow accessory carriers to be mounted in two ways, either by clamping around the bars or by installing in the T-slots. Locks are included.

For carriers I suggest the Thule Pulse Large # TH615 because it will give you 16 cubic feet of capacity but still fit the bed without hanging over. The Pulse uses EasyGrip clamps that allow fast installation without tools and a lock is included. Since the Pulse is 33-inches wide you'll have plenty of space for your kayak and its carrier. I included a video to show you more details on the Pulse.

I suggest the Yakima JayLow kayak carrier # Y04073 because it will handle up to 2 kayaks, in case you ever need to transport a second one, and because it folds down when not in use. Lock kit # Y07202 is a good addition for securing it. Please check out the video to see this capable multi-kayak carrier.

For managing the cargo in your bed I suggest one of the Du-Ha portable wheeled storage containers, either # DU70114 or # DU70103, both of which measure 53 x 15 x 15 on the outside. These containers have dividers you can move around to customize them for your specific gear. Please see the linked photo. The sturdy wheels make it easy to move the container over to your campfire for instant seating - cup holders included. Steel latches allow you to lock the cases with a padlock like # 141T.
