Recommended Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System for 2019 Grand Design Imagine 2670MK

Question:

This is for a 15 F-150 3.5L EB 10700 max loaded trailer weight. I have called Equal-i-zer directly and was told me that I should be getting the 1k/10k hitch. However, when I pull up the trailer from your site 2019 Grand Design Imagine 2670MK ~ 8500+/- loaded, Tongue weight~800+/- loaded it advises to use the 1.4K/14k WDH. As Im not exactly against this as bigger is almost always better, right?!? Or, is this purely overkill? Could bumping up this much cause harsh ride issues or is there actual necessity to do this?

For your 2019 Grand Design Imagine 2670MK Trailer the higher-rated Equal-i-zer 14/1.4K Weight Distribution System # EQ37140ET will be the better option.

Since your Grand Design can weigh up to 8,500 pounds when fully loaded, you are looking at a loaded tongue weight of around 850 to 1,275 pounds. We can calculate this because a trailer's tongue weight should be 10 to 15 percent of its total weight.

When picking out a weight distribution system the most important factor to consider is the total tongue weight of your setup. This includes the loaded tongue weight of the trailer along with any added cargo weight coming from the rear axle of your F-150. Ideally this number falls comfortably within the operating range for the system you choose.

With this in mind the 10K/1.K Equal-i-zer System # EQ37100ET that was suggested to you will likely be under-rated with its tongue weight capacity of 600 to 1,000 pounds (especially considering you still need to factor in added rear cargo weight to your total tongue weight figure). An under-rated system will essentially be like not having one at all.

The 14K/1.4K Equal-i-zer System # EQ37140ET that I recommend features a tongue weight range of 1,000 to 1,400 pounds. There is a really good chance that you will fall within this range with your total tongue weight but even if it's slightly below it you will still receive all the benefits of a WD system. A rougher ride is a possibility with systems that are massively over-rated, but you won't experience any of that with something that's just a bit off in that direction. In fact when Equal-i-zer was at our facility not too long ago they made it a point to say that because of their spring bar design an over-rated system is not an issue.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this particular unit that you can check out as well.
