Parts Needed To Install Prodigy Brake Controller on 2012 Toyota Tundra

The brake controller will not be a 7 pin or 4 pin, it is the trailer connector that is at the back of your vehicle that will be either a 7-Way connector or a 4-Flat connector.

To use a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885, on your 2012 Toyota Tundra you will need to have a 7-Way trailer connector at the rear of your vehicle. The 7-Way is required to give you the additional leads that are needed for the electric brakes, 12 volt hot lead, and backup lights (if needed).

If your Tundra already has a 7-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle, all you will need to install a brake controller is the Prodigy P2 brake controller # 90885, and the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter, part # 3040-P. This adapter plugs into the 5-pin connector on your vehicles built-in brake control wiring harness. The 5-pin connector is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. If you just have a 4-Flat connector on the rear of your vehicle you will need the brake controller and the Hopkins Adapter, part # 37185. This adapter will plug into the existing 4-Flat on your vehicle and give you both a 7-Way and a 4-Flat connector on your vehicle. The adapter will have four remaining wires that will need to be hardwired to the vehicle.

The four remaining wires will need to be hardwired to the corresponding circuits on the vehicle. The white (ground) wire will need to be attached to the vehicle frame, the black (12 volt power) wire is connected to the vehicles battery with 10 gauge wire like the # 10-1-1, through a 40-amp circuit breaker # 9510, the blue (trailer brake) wire will be connected to the blue trailer brake feed wire on the brake controller, and the purple ( auxiliary) wire is for reverse lights if you need that circuit. If any of these connections are not needed just wire tie them up out of the way for future use. I am including a link to a video that shows this # 37185 adapter being installed on a 2010 Tundra.

If your 2012 Tundra has no trailer connector you will need to use the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, part # 118384, to get a 4-Way on your vehicle. Then, you will use the Brake Controller Installation Kit, # ETBC7, and hardwire the brake controller to your vehicle.
