Are Breakaway Switches Universal
Question:
I have a popular portable braking device and would like to purchase and start using the Stay n Play but I want to use my existing break away switch from the portable unit thats already installed. Its just a switch so I plan on cutting the jack off the end of the cable and wire it to the new system as instructed. Any reason why that wouldnt work?

Expert Reply:
All breakaway switches like the one included with the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251 work the same way and they are essentially universal. You can certainly use your existing one and keep the one included in the SMI kit as a spare.
You can refer to the linked articles for details on installing and testing your breakaway.
