Weight Capacity for and Parts Needed to Tow with a 2017 BMW X1

From what I could find online it looks like the towing capacity of your 2017 BMW X1 ranges from 1,023 lbs - 1,177 lbs depending on the exact model. You should be able to find specifics on this in your owner's manual as I couldn't locate one online. If you don't have your owner's manual or can't find the capacities then you can always contact your local dealer with your VIN for that capacity.
The reason why the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13303 that you referenced has such a higher weight rating is because Curt tests the overall strength of the trailer hitch apart from the vehicle. Since the weight rating of your X1 is lower that is your limiting factor but you can be confident that your trailer hitch will handle whatever your vehicle can.
To complete your towing setup you also need the T-One Wiring Kit # 118717 and a ball mount kit like the Curt Fusion Ball Mount # C45155 which comes with a 2" hitch ball and has a 2-1/4" rise. Please check out the attached ball mount article though to make sure that the 2-1/4" rise is correct for your application.
I have attached installation videos for both the trailer hitch and wiring for you to check out.
