Comparing Reese Goose Box Pin Box to Andersen Ultimate for Ram 3500 Short Bed Turning Clearances

Question:

I currently have a Dodge Ram 3500 with the regular bed 64 and use an Andersen Ultimate Hitch to tow our 2019 Grand Deisgn RV. I have been looking at the Reese Air Ride Goose Box, and was wondering if the overall length from the RV to the hitch point is longer and would allow for greater clearance between the front of the RV to the cab of the truck with the Reese Goose Box. I already pinched the cab on the RV cap once already first week I had it, and am wondering if the Reese Goose Box would give me a little more room. I am not interested in a slider-hitch. Thank you in advance for your input!

The Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter # RP94720 for Lippert 1621, 1621HD, and 0719 pin boxes will not increase your turning clearances by itself beyond the Andersen Ultimate hitch you have. The distance from the center of the hitch ball coupler to the center of the first row of bolt holes is 17-3/4 inches. The biggest benefit is the air ride suspension along with one less moving part.

The only way to increase this is to use an offset hitch ball like the 4" Offset Ball for B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitches # BWGNXA4085 if you have a B&W Turnoverball gooseneck hitch. If you have a different gooseneck hitch a different style adapter may be available, so let me know what you have and we can determine if there are options to increase clearance or not. If you have a factory gooseneck hitch, there is not an adapter to increase clearances.

Your Andersen box is mounted to the king pin to give normal clearance. Most (including myself with RAM 3500) will rotate the box 180 degrees so then you have about 10in more cab clearance and not need anything! I think you are supposed to run a lockout kit for the Rotaflex with an Andersen also if not already doing that.

I think you need to make a 4' rear offset for the 2017 Ford pickup with Ford's pinned ball. There must be millions on the road. If they are using Andersen hitches in the short box pickups they are having clearance problems.

I agree. I wish there was an offset ball available for the Ford factory puck system, but as of now we're still waiting too. As soon as something becomes available we'll absolutely have it up on our site.
