Recommended Tire Chains for 2012 Ford F150 4x4 with 275/65R18 Tires
Question:
The owners manual says not to use tire chains on this size tire but your web site and others recommend Type S chains with this combination. What is the answer? Is it simply a CYA by Ford?

Ford does state in your owners manual not to use chains on tire sizes P265/60R18,
P275/65R18, LT275/65R18, LT315/70R17, P275/55R20, and P275/45R22. Unfortunately that only leaves 3 of their factory tire sizes as able to use chains. They do this to mitigate their liability as chains can have clearance issues.
There are some areas where state law requires tire chains, and in that instance you do need to have chains for your tires as state law trumps the manufacturer. I recommend getting class S chains so you have chains designed for minimal clearances.
For your 275/65R18 tires I recommend using the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - 1 Pair # TC2327 which require a minimum of 1.46 inches between the top of the tire tread and wheel well and at least 0.59 inches between the inner sidewall of the tire and any portion of the vehicle where the tires could make contact.
Unfortunately the K-Summit # TH02230K77 you asked about will not fit your tire size and there is not another option that is compatible in that unique design.
