Recommended Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack for a 2018 Toyota Highlander

Question:

I am wanting to add a trailer hitch to my 2018 Highlander to I can carry 2 bikes. We don't have a bike rack either so if you could point us in the right direction I would appreciate it. Looking for something that is easy to use and can fit with different bikes in case we go riding with friends.

The trailer hitch I recommend for carrying bikes with your 2018 Toyota Highlander is the Curt Class III # C13394 because it is the only trailer hitch that features a hidden crosstube and can still accommodate a full size spare (as long as it is not on the aluminum rim)stowed under the vehicle. The hidden crosstube gives you a clean look when installed because only the receiver and tow hooks are visible.

Then for a bike rack I highly recommend the Kuat NV 2.0 Base # BA22B because it combines a great look with easy-to-use features for one of the best bike racks on the market. This is a platform style rack that secures bikes by the wheels which means it can accommodate any bike frame style out there that doesn't have fenders. The locks and anti-rattle components are actually integrated into the bike rack so the only piece you have to keep track of is the actual locking pin itself.

One of the best things about this bike rack is how you can add the adapter # APBK to carry an additional bike with fat tires or the add-on # BA02B if you ever need to carry up to 4 bikes for riding with friends. The bike repair stand # TDKB can also be added in case you need to fix something on your bike while you are out on the trail or even in your driveway!

I also recommend checking out the Yakima BackSwing # Y02483 to use with the NV Base 2.0. Although the bike rack does have the ability to tilt so you can open up the rear hatch on your Highlander, if you have the bikes still loaded it may be difficult to get anything out. This swing away add-on allows you to completely move the bike rack out of the equation with the bikes still loaded.

I have attached some review videos for you to check out.
