Roof Rack Recommendation for 2017 Audi Q3

Question:

Hello, I’ve researched a lot on this topic and have even reached out to Thule and Audi. Of course nobody wants to take responsibility or liability and give me good sound advice on this which I understand but here is my conundrum. My purpose of installing a roof rack is to keep it mostly permanent on my vehicle so all I have to do is add the bike rack when I’m going for a ride. If I’m unable to open my sunroof while driving around town with only the roof rack installed, that seems a bit troublesome as I live in California and we have lots of sunny weather. This would mean I have to remove the roof rack every time IF there is a chance I want to open my sunroof. Many times I open my sunroof on the fly. How are people dealing with this issue? I can’t imagine constantly removing then installing a roof rack EVERY SINGLE TIME. Am I the only one with this problem? Thanks for your time and input.

The issue is that the sunroof of your 2017 Audi Q3 tilts up a bit when it opens which would interfere with a roof rack. The other thing too is that roof racks and open sunroofs are very noisy. If you were to open it with the rack installed (if it were possible) the amount of noise created would make you want to close it anyway. Best option is to install and remove the rack as needed.

The roof rack that creates the least amount of wind noise is the Thule WingBar roof rack part numbers # TH711200, # TH710601, and # TH186031 which is a confirmed fit for your Audi. It attaches to the factory fixed points too which means it install and removes pretty easily. I attached a review video for this rack on a similar Audi for you to check out as well.

This rack would work great with the assisted Thule Hullavator part # TH898 kayak carrier you referenced as well.
