Hi everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today we're be taking a look at the NOCO Boost Sport. This is gonna be a portable jump starter for your car or other equipment. It's gonna work for gas engines up to four liters and a variety of different battery types and give you a quick and portable solution to get those dead batteries started. Let's check it out. So let's take a quick look at the Boost Sport itself.

This is how it's gonna come right out of the box. You'll notice that we've got a variety of buttons on the front and three different ports, one on the side and two on the back. Now this is going to be the way you charge the box and on the side next to it, that's where you can charge up something like smartphone plugging in the USB out to your device or portable speaker, whatever you got. Now the main thing we're looking at though is going to be that 12 volt out. That's gonna be what we plug our clamps into and use to actually jump our vehicle.

Those are gonna be pretty short but it's a good quality cable. Plugs into that 12 volt out. Make sure it plugs in all the way. It's a firm connection. And that'll give us our positive and negative clamps color coded for easy identification and this will be the part that we connect to our battery.

Now, to use this they recommend charging it up to full battery first. They include a charger cable to make that happen because it does come only partially charged. We're not gonna actually be jumping any batteries today 'cause our battery's not dead. So we'll leave it at that. And to begin the jump starting process plug in to those battery clamps and make sure that you've got that full charge.

With the NOCO Boost off and your vehicle off, clamp onto the positive and then the negative terminal on your battery. Once connected, you can hit the power button to turn the unit on. All the LEDs will flash to let us know that they're working and then this white boost LED will illuminate. Now for whatever reason, if we had our clamps hooked up in reverse, then this error light would be illuminated solid red and if the battery was too hot it would be flashing. But since this white boost LED is illuminated, at that point, you could start your vehicle. Now depending on how this all goes, if your car doesn't immediately start up, then you can retry again. You may need to just leave this connected for up to 30 seconds before you try turning your car on. If that still doesn't work, you can retry. Just make sure that you wait about 15 minutes in between each jump cycle and don't exceed five consecutive jump attempts within that 15 minute window. That's just to make sure that nothing overheats and everything stays protected. And when disconnecting it when you're all done, disconnect the clamps in the reverse order. So negative first, then positive. These clamps are gonna have spark protection and nice covers over the top of them so you don't have to worry about that too much. Still be careful of it. Just make sure that you treat them with care and then you can remove the unit from your engine bay. Now a couple other things. If that white LED didn't illuminate when you we're connected to the battery, it might be because your battery is too low. If it's below two volts then you're gonna need to manually override. You can press and hold the red button here to just manually override that and feed that jump into your battery because if your battery is too dead then it just won't be able to detect it and it won't illuminate that white boost LED. The last button on the unit is a light bulb. You probably saw that before but that's just to activate an LED light. So if you needed a small flashlight it's got multiple power levels and then it's got a couple different strobing features. So if you're maybe stuck on the side of the road and you needed some extra assistance and needed to get someone's attention then the strobe could do that. The internal lithium ion battery has a 24 watt hour capacity. Now what that translates to in real world use is gonna be 20 jump starts off a single charge. And the ability, again, like we told you before to charge things like your phone in the case of an emergency. It's gonna hold a charge for a little over a year with minimal discharge. But if you do need to recharge it, you can use that included cable to plug into maybe a USB in your car, plug into the USB in using that micro USB and you can charge it in as little as three hours. Now if it's partially charged, it'll be quicker than that but it's good that you can do it in the car, at the house, in the garage, wherever you need it. And in the case of your devices you just plug into that other USB the USB A port where it says USB out. Get that lined up, make sure it's facing the right way and then you can plug the other end into your phone or device. So we'll grab that, grab my phone and show that that is working as well so long as we have the unit actually on. And there we go. Charging now. With all of these dust caps on, it does have an IP65 rating. So if you're out in the rain and the elements, as long as you open these up when you're under the hood protected from the rain, it shouldn't damage anything and it should hold up pretty well over time. And the nice thing about it is how small it is. It does come with a small bag for storage, plenty of room for the box itself, as well as any of the accessories like the alligator clamps and that small USB charging cable. And when you're done with that, the whole bag is still pretty small and compact making it easy to pull that drawstring tight, store it somewhere like your center console. Mine's a little bit full right now, but if you make a bit of room, stores there in your glove box under your seat wherever you need it to fit until it's ready to be used again. And a couple other things. If you ever needed replacement clamps, you could get those here at etrailer. But NOCO also offers ring terminals. So if you wanted to install that permanently on the battery side, have a lead just hanging out in your engine bay ready to go it makes the hookup process quicker because then all you need to do, plug it in turn the unit on and get to jumping. So if you've got a vehicle that frequently sits for long periods of time that you need to jump maybe after the winter to get it ready for the summer then you can do that.
