Can the Curt Echo Draw Power for the Trailer Battery
Question:
Can a Curt Echo be powered off a trailers onboard battery instead of the tow vehicles battery thereby eliminating running a battery feed wire in the tow vehicles battery. Is the Echo already set up to do this in that the battery feed wire from the tow vehicle runs to the trailers battery already. If the tow vehicle only has a 4way connector one could get power and ground from the trailers battery to feed the unit.

The Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 will require that you have a 7-way installed on the tow vehicle with 12 volt power. There is no way around this unfortunately. The trailer's battery would not be able to power the brake controller as that is simply not how it is designed.
In order to add a 7-way to your vehicle you will want to use the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole part # 37185 and then run 10 gauge wire part # 10-1-1 to the positive battery terminal with a circuit breaker like part # 9510.
