I took a look at the online owner's manual for your 2018 Dodge Journey. If you have the 2.4L engine you can tow a trailer that weighs up to 1,000 pounds. If you have the larger 3.6L engine the maximum trailer weight is 2,500 pounds (with 1 to 2 people in the vehicle). This capacity drops with more passengers (2,000 pound capacity with 3 to 4 people and 1,500 pounds with 5 to 7 people).

I do recommend also verifying this information in your copy of the manual or by checking with your local Dodge dealer.

In order to tow a trailer you will need a hitch and wiring harness.

Starting with the trailer hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 76225 because of its hidden design where only the 2 inch receiver is visible behind the vehicle. This allows for a sleek OEM appearance that will look great on your Dodge Journey (see attached image). It will use existing holes in the vehicle's frame for a no-drill installation and all the hardware is included.

I have attached an installation video that you can also use for reference.

Then for a trailer wiring harness I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118536 if your vehicle has LED tail lights or the Tekonsha # 118567 if you have incandescent bulb tail lights. These are custom harnesses that will install by simply plugging into factory ports behind the driver and passenger side tail lights. They will provide you with a 4-Way connector to connect with or power a trailer's basic signal lights.

Lastly in order to pull a trailer you will need a ball mount and hitch ball. I have attached a great article that explains how to choose the best one for your setup along with a link that will take you to our available selection.
