Troubleshooting LED Light on Lippert Power Tongue Jack LC285318

Question:

I have a new Puma travel trailer ~1 month and the light on the tongue stays on even when the switch is off. I can manually turn the light to the on then off position and the light goes off but in a few minutes it comes back on. Also when the light is on with the switch off it is at a low level of light looks like a night light may appear. If the switch is turned on the light gets much brighter. I thought this may be a new design feature as it show light around the tongue area which helps with visibility and makes the tongue easier to see in the dark but I am not sure? Any thoughts as to what may be going on?

I have to agree with you that it sounds like something is wrong with your Lippert powered tongue jack since the courtesy light should go off completely when the switch is in the off position.

I suspect that there is trapped water inside the switch that is both maintaining a connection even when the switch is off and also preventing full power from reaching the light when it is switched on.

You can try removing the cover/switch panel to allow that moisture to dissipate. This will best be done in a warm and sunny environment that will speed up evaporation.

Given that it is November you might try a hand-held hair dryer as another option to warm and evaporate any moisture. If you completely dry out the switches you may find normal operation is restored, but if not you can replace that part with item # LC285160 which is a new cover with both light and power switches included.

I recommend that if you do need to replace the cover component you take a photo of all wire connections on the original part before you remove any wires from the switch contacts. This will help avoid any confusion about how to re-connect everything.

Lippert also offers a Replacement LED Light Module for your jack, part # LC226027, which consists of a small circuit board and wiring connectors as shown in the linked photo. Since your light DOES function, just not correctly, I still suspect that your switches are the cause for the malfunction and I recommend you try the thorough dry-out process before anything else.

@RobertM I'm seeing that Lippert might have a replacement lens for the light available but I'm not seeing the bottom part of the cover for this jack. Would you be able to use the lens without replacing the entire bottom portion of the head cover?
