Weight Distribution with Sway Control Recommendation for 7,500 lb Trailer

Question:

I have a half ton 2017 crew dodge ram 1500. Looking to purchase a trailer and heard a sway bar would be ideal. After reading the info on your site I figured Id see what you would reccomend. 36 ft trailer 7,540 dry and 940 hitch. What would be the best sway bar for those weights? Please let me know. Thank you,

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

For a dry weight of 940 lb tongue weight and keeping in mind what the towing capacity of your 2017 Ram 1500 would be the best weight distribution system we offer with sway control will be the Reese Strait Line part # RP66084 as it has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs and features only sway control that works to fight sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
