Comparing etrailer and EcoHitch Trailer Hitches for 2016 Toyota Highlander

Question:

I am comparing the Eco Hitch - 306-X7250 and the etrailer e98844 for a 2016 Toyota Highlander. I want something that is somewhat concealed, but I am able to place bike-racks or cargo carriers on there without any issues. etrailer is much cheaper, but are there any other differences?

The etrailer Trailer Hitch # e98844 and the EcoHitch # 306-X7250 for your 2016 Toyota Highlander are both class III hitches, but the etrailer hitch has a higher weight capacity, can be used with a weight distribution system and has a matte black finish. The EcoHitch features a hidden design where only the receiver will be visible beneath the bumper, the etrailer hitch has a fully exposed crosstube.

The hidden appearance makes it more difficult to install the EcoHitch than the etrailer hitch. It will also make it a bit more difficult to install hitch-mounted accessories without running into interference issues with the bumper.

Because of this (and the noticeable price difference) I definitely recommend going with the etrailer # e98844. However, if the hidden crosstube is the most important to you, then the EcoHitch # e306-X7250 is a great hitch.
