Recommended Best Parts for Flat Towing a 2012 Jeep Liberty
Question:
What do you recommend to flat tow a 2012 Jeep Liberty?

Expert Reply:
For your 2012 Jeep Liberty, I recommend starting with the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # 521434-1 because the system is almost invisible when not in use. It will provide a solid connection to your vehicle for the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar # RM-576. This tow bar will give you the safety cables and the wiring connection you need in a really nice integrated part.
For your vehicle wiring I recommend the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # HM56204 which will plug into your factory wiring harness located behind your tail lights. Then you will simply run the wiring to the front of your Liberty and make the connections for the 6-Way. I recommend adding the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25 at this same time to give you a maintained battery in your Jeep for worry-free sightseeing when you reach your destination. You will also need the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400 to prevent the prevent the towed vehicle's brake signal from overriding the turn signal from the RV when applying the brakes during a turn.
For your braking system, I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251. This system is a favorite because of the ease of use after installation. It becomes a plug and play system that requires no additional adjustment after initial installation is completed. It is a reliable and out of the way system that is extremely reliable.
A final component you will need is a high-low adapter. This is vehicle and motorhome specific, so I've attached an article to help with measuring for the correct fit and have linked the page to your options to make it easy.
You may also be interested in the tow bar cover # RM-055-3 to protect your tow bar while being stowed on your motorhome. It is nice to have the clean look and also cover the nice tow bar.
Finally you may want to consider the Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screening # RM-4700 and/or the Roadmaster Guardian Rock Guard # RM-4000 to keep anything that may be kicked up from the road by your motorhome or a passing vehicle from making contact with the front of your vehicle. This is a really nice safeguard to protect your Jeep from thrown rocks or other debris.
I know this is a lot of information, so let me know if you have further questions. I've attached a few videos to assist.
