Recommended Equipment for Flat Towing 2007 Saturn Vue Behind a Motorhome

Question:

Hi, I am a novice RV-er. We have purchased a 28ft winne with a 2inch hitch. I am looking to purchase a 2007 saturn vue as a toad. Can you please give me all I need to do so? Specific products if possible. I know I need a tow plate, tow bar, and safety cables. But I will also need a 6 pin wire to the motor home correct? So detailed help would so greatly be appreciated Thank you so much!

According to my research, the 2007 Saturn Vue is capable of being flat towed without modification, but I'd urge you to confirm that for yourself. From what I've read, it's not recommended to tow the vehicle above 65 mph, and there are specific steps mentioned in the owner's manual that need to be followed exactly.

To flat tow the vehicle, you'll need a tow bar, base plates, safety cables, a wiring solution so the Vue's taillights work in tandem with those of the RV and a supplemental braking system. In some cases, a high-low adapter might also be necessary.

There are 3 Roadmaster base plates available, the one you'll need will depend on how your Vue is equipped. For Hybrid or 4 cylinder models, the # 3139-1 will work. for 6 cylinder models that aren't the Red Line model, use part # 3121-1 or for 6 cylinder Red Line models, use # 3150-1. None of these tow bars are compatible with vehicles equipped with brush guards.

The Roadmaster Falcon 2 tow bar, part # RM-520 is our most popular tow bar. The tow bar has a 6000 lb capacity, which is plenty for your Vue and features self locking and centering arms which makes it easy to connect the tow bar to the vehicle, even when the vehicle is perfectly lined up behind the RV. For safety cables, use the # RM-643 coiled cables.

For a wiring solution, I like the Roadmaster # RM-15247 diode system which includes the diodes, the 4 pin connector for the front of the vehicle and the coiled wiring umbilical. Because a fuse needs to be pulled to flat tow the vehicle a fuse bypass, like part # RM76511 would allow you to flip a switch instead of pulling a fuse each time you tow.

For a supplemental braking system, the two major categories available are a permanently mounted or a portable unit. A permanently mounted system doesn't need to be set up each time you're ready to tow. The Stay-IN-Play DUO, part # SM99251, only needs to be turned on and off using a switch to go from towing to driving.

When installed, the tow bar needs to be within three inches of level, plus or minus. If it's not, we offer high/low adapters that will get your tow bar closer to level (see link). I've also linked you to some other FAQ articles about flat towing.
