Tire Chain Compatibility with Tire Sizes Offered on 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe

Question:

Your site has a video showing the installation of Konig chains on a 2017 black Chevy Tahoe. However, the Tahoe manual specifically states do not to use chains with that wheel size, 265/65R18. Why? Thanks.

You are correct that the online owner's manual for the 2017 Chevy Tahoe indicates on page 381 that the tire size 265/65R18 on this vehicle should not be fitted with tire chains. Other larger tire sizes are also prohibited from use with tire chains. The reason for excluding some tire sizes is clearance; there may not be enough space within the wheel wells to completely avoid the chance for chains to contact components such as brake lines.

The Konig XG12 Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # TH01594267 do fit this tire size and that is why we included this vehicle among the videos. Other owners of the Tahoe could have one of the other tire sizes offered on the vehicle, such as the 255/70-17 size, and so for that reason we show it. But you are absolutely right that no chain should be used on that specific tire size on that specific vehicle as per the owner's manual.

Tahoe owners with tire size 255/70-17 can safely use chains such as the low-profile S-Class Konig Premium K-Summit chains # TH02230K77 which need less clearance.
