Hitch Adapter to Raise Height of Cargo Carrier for Batter Ground Clearance

Question:

Hi. We have a 2017 ford explorer and a cargopod. We need to raise it up so it doesnt hit bottom. We would like 6+ inches if possible and get the max weight allowance. We understand our tongue capacity is 500lbs which will be reduced by half. Can you recommend options for us please? Thank you.

We can help you with a 2-inch hitch adapter that will give you a height rise for better ground clearance with your CargoPod hitch cargo carrier. I suggest the Roadmaster 2-inch High-Low Adapter # RM-048-8.

The Roadmaster has a solid steel shank for strength rather than a hollow one like the Malone # MPG544 and it gives you a full 8-inches of rise. This too will reduce your hitch's rated capacity by 50-percent, the same as the Malone, and it also shares the same 400-lb tongue weight (TW) rating. This means the loaded carrier should not weigh more than 50-percent of the hitch's rated capacity.

You may care to add the dual lock set # RM-316 to secure both the adapter and the cargo carrier. Another worthwhile item to consider is a simple pair of cam buckle straps like # 317-412080 (6-foot) or # EM34409 (8-foot) that can help steady the loaded carrier in the adapter/hitch to prevent excessive motion as you travel.
