Will a Trailer Hitch Scrape on a 2010 Toyota Prius Going Up a Driveway
Question:
Hi! I have a 2010 Toyota Prius, and a STEEP driveway. I want a hitch to use with a bike rack. Is there any way to determine if adding a hitch will scrape the driveway before I install? I dont want the empty hitch hitting the driveway every time I drive up it. I am asking because I had a hitch put on a Honda Odyssey, and it did scrape, so I removed it. Thanks!

Though I cannot give you an exact yes or no answer as there are too many variable involved, I can tell you that a trailer hitch like the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24847 which is a fit for your 2010 Toyota Prius has a receiver tube that will sit about 11-1/2" off the ground. I have also attached a photo which better shows the ground clearance of a trailer hitch on your Prius.
If you feel the hitch will scrape which if your driveway is as steep as you say it is I do believe it will so I think the best option would be a trunk mounted bike rack like the Thule Passage 2 Bike Carrier part # TH910XT. The Passage 2 has rubber pads to protect the vehicle's finish, six point attachment for increased security, and anti-sway cradles to prevent bike to bike/bike vehicle contact.
I have attached a review video for you as well.
