Weight Distribution Recommendation for V-Nose Trailer with 400-600 lb of Tongue Weight
Question:
I just bought a cargo trailer GVW 7K but I will never have more then 4K - 5K in it. My problem is sometimes I will pull it with a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 but a lot of the time I will be towing using my 2002 Windsport 36ft Class A motorhome so I would like a set up that will work with both vehicles. I will estimate the tongue weight may range from 400 - 600 lbs. I like Reese but am willing to look at any makes. Other issue is this is a 7ft x 14ft cargo with a V Nose so I dont have a lot of area to attach to the frame.... also I would like to use about a 12inch hitch extender to keep it back using the motorhome...

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
So for a system that would work well with your 400-600 lbs of tongue weight you'd want the Reese Weight Distribution system part # RP66541 which has a tongue weight range of 400-800 lbs. Since you have a V-nose trailer you'd also need the bolt on brackets part # RP58305 to fit under that.
The only thing we can't help with is a 12 inch hitch extension that would be rated for the weight of the trailer you have.
For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
