Recommendation for Making Low Crossbars Over Truck Bed Using the TracRac SR System

Question:

Jason S. answered a question for another customer that was exactly what I was looking for in his answer to Recommendation for Making Low Crossbars for TracRac SR Systeminch https://www.etrailer.com/question-263303.html Two follow-up questions. 1 For this set up, how would the towers for the cross-bars mount to the SR bases mounting feett? I dont quite see how they would connect. 2 If I used the square crossbars recommended either the SportRack or Swagman, can you recommend a bike rack that would fit these bars? Thanks.

The Thule TracRac SR like # TH43002XT-501 for 6-1/2 foot bed or # TH43003XT-000 for the 8 foot bed is the correct fit for a 2018 Ford F-150. This system uses the stake pockets to mount the rails.

To mount a system to these slider rails you will need the Nylon Inserts - part # TAFX-42008 (8) as two are required per base. Then you will need the Right Mounting Foot - part # TA01-42004 (2) and the Left Mounting Foot - part # TA01-42003 (2). Then you will need the Locking Knobs # TAKB-90030-1 (4) as stated in the answer you referenced.

To mount a system like the # SR1020 or the # S80510, you will need to drill into the bases and hard mount the feet. My recommendation is to use a drill and tap like the 10 mm x 1.25 Tap and 8.8 mm Drill Bit # and then use Loctite like # LT37418 so you can use compatible hardware to install the towers. This is a custom mounting, so I would also trim down the mount for a cleaner look.

There are many bike racks compatible with square bars, so I recommend the Rhino-Rack Hybrid Roof Bike Rack # RRRBC050 because it comes with the rack lock and bike lock to deter theft. Another option I recommend is the Yakima FrontLoader Wheel Mount Bike Carrier - Roof Mount # Y02103 which requires # Y07202 if you want to secure it.
