Rob here at etrailer.com and today we're going to be taking a look at the Demco Blue Ox Tow Bar to Demco Base Plate Adapter. Now if you find yourself in a situation where you have a Blue Ox tow bar and you have a Demco base plate, you'll find out real quickly that they don't connect up together the way they are. But I know like most of us, we're not going to want to go out and get rid of our existing tow bar or have to remove the base plate to put on one that's compatible. Well, that's where the adapter is going to come into play. It's going to allow us to use our existing components without having to buy a whole other set.So here's what our adapter is going to look like once we have it installed on our tow bar. It's actually just going to bolt in place of the original Blue Ox tab right here so that way we can have the Demco section to go into our classic base plate.
And whenever you hook it up, it's going to hook up just like normal. We'll have a linchpin and a large pin holding everything in place. If I pull it out, you can see it's just going to be bolted in in the same spot. Super simple installation can actually be done in a matter of minutes.Now our adapter is going to be made specifically for several Blue Ox tow bars. It's going to work with the Blue Ox Aladdin, the Blue Ox Aventa II, the Blue Ox Aventa LX, and the Blue Ox Alexus tow bars.
Now it is going to come with all the hardware necessary to bolt it onto your tow bar, but obviously you're going to have to provide your own tow bar and base plate to hook it up to. Now that you've seen what everything looks like and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed.To begin your installation, you want to grab your tow bar and go ahead and lay out all the components that come with the adapter. Now, depending on which tow bar you're putting it on, we're going to use a different combination of washers. Now we're putting ours on a Blue Ox Aladdin tow bar, so we're going to be using the thin washers out of our kit, the clear almost white colored ones, and we're not going to be using the thick gray ones, so we can go ahead and set these aside. Now we'll move to the end of our tow bar where our attachment point is bolted in place.
You going to grab a 3/4" socket and wrench. I'm going to hold the nut on the bottom while I loosen up the bolt. Remove the nut, pull the bolt off, remove the other end and all the washers inside.Once you have the old one removed, you want to grab the new spacer, we'll slide it in so the holes line up on the tabs here. I'm going to grab one of the nylon washers, slide it over so it lines up with the hole, we can grab our adapter, line up the holes again, and we'll take a new bolt out of our kit, slide it through the adapter, through the washer through the spacer and before we have it come through all the way, we want to put another nylon washer in, in between the adapter itself and our tow bar.Now it may be a little difficult to try to balance everything, but you want to make sure you put that washer in between and the bolt goes through it. And once you have that in place, we'll take the nylon lock nut and get it started by hand.
We'll come back with that same 3/4" wrench and socket and tighten it up. And with this one one, we're going to repeat that same process for the other arm.With the adapter in place, we went ahead and put our tow bar in the back of our hitch on our motor home. Now we'll hook that up to the front of our vehicle. You will want to extend the arms out until the holes line up on our base plate, we're going to take the new pin, we'll slide it through and we can take our linchpin inserted through the pin and make sure it latches around, and we're ready to roll. And with everything secure, that'll finish up your look and the installation of the Demco Blue Ox Tow Bar to Demco Classic Base Plate Adapter.
