B&W Extend-A-Goose Gooseneck Coupler Compatibility with 4 Inch Offset Ball for Short Bed Trucks

Question:

How does extend a goose, PN BWTEXA4200, impact tongue weight or towing capacity? I assume it moves the center of gravity behind the axle. Are there any calculators or methods to show how this impacts my payload? This is for a 2018 F150 Supercrew with 5.5foot bed, needing the clearance for a narrow front gooseneck trailer 6foot front width. Can an offset adapter 4 and extend-a-goose be utilized together? Seems logically like this may impact the truck substantially.

The B&W Extend-A-Goose Gooseneck Coupler - 10" Offset # BWTEXA4200 moves the trailer back, however the payload weight will remain the same because the tongue weight of the trailer will still be on the gooseneck ball. The angle will change the amount of torque at the hitch ball, but the towing capacity and tongue weight of your truck will not change as the tongue weight is still on the hitch ball. Moving the point further back for the trailer would put a different amount of weight on the tongue, but there is not a calculator for that and the difference will be minimal unless the trailer is not balanced well with the axle locations. The only weight restriction for towing is your truck's restriction which will be less than the 24,000 lb capacity of the coupler.

B&W says the Extend-A-Goose can be used with an offset ball like # BWGNXA4085. This will move the pivot point of your trailer back 4 inches and the coupler location of your trailer still back that 10 inches. You will want to make sure you measure 10 inches from that pivot point because the angles for clearance will be different than measuring 14 inches from your current pivot point so you can't just add them together.

The payload and towing capacity of your truck will not change, so you will still need to be within the manufacturer's specifications.
