Bike Rack For Use With Trailer on Weight Distribution Hitch

Question:

I have a 2018 Ford F150 XLT pulling a 2014 Forest River Roo hybrid travel trailer using a Fastway e2 trunnion 8000# WDH. Im trying to figure out how to haul two bikes as well with this setup. Im looking for an arrangement to put a bike rack on the truck hitch receiver as I dont want to use a bike rack on the trailer rear bumper. A dual hitch adapter seems like a good solution, but I dont see any that are rated to pull more than a 4000# trailer. What do you suggest?

Expert Reply:

A dual hitch adapter won't work for you because even if there was an adapter rated for the amount you needed, an adapter will slice your hitch capacity by 50 percent. Your best option, if you do not want to haul bikes behind your trailer, is the Jack-It 2 Bike Rack for A-Frame Trailers # LC429756.

This rack fits around jacks with up to 2-1/4" outer tube diameter and 22-1/2" clearance; it has an 80 lb weight capacity and holds your bikes by the wheels. Apart from this your best bet is to do something you were clear you did not want to, and that's haul the bikes behind your trailer with an RV-approved bike rack and hitch.
