How to Carry Four Bikes on a 2017 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen

Question:

The weight rating on the 2inch and 1-1/4inch are the same. 2000 lbs tow and 200 lbs tongue. But the 2inch is listed as a class III vs. the smaller one is only a class I. If I wanted to to do a four bike carrier 2 adult bikes and two kids bikes, where the rack and all four bikes combine to 150 lbs. am I OK with the 1-1/4inch or do I need the 2?

In order to carry four bikes on your 2017 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen you will need to use a class III 2" trailer hitch receiver like the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7315. The maximum number of bikes that can be carried on a class I 1-1/4" trailer hitch receiver is two regardless of weight capacity. This hitch is a custom fit for your Golf and will not require any drilling into the frame.

The weight capacity that you will need to abide by will be 200 lbs unless the vehicle is rated lower (see owner's manual). I have attached an install photo on a similar Golf for you as well.
