Boat Trailer Compatibility with Electric Drum Brakes on Axles

Question:

I have a pontoon boat trailer, needs brakes and drums, looking at your complete axil with electric brakes, would this be ok for backing the trailer out into the lake, or stay with hydraulic brakes?2018 Chevy Silverado 1500

The Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 89" - 3,500 lbs # 35545E-ST-89 is a great option for your boat trailer. You will simply need to disconnect the trailer from your tow vehicle before backing the trailer into the water. You can reconnect the trailer after a few seconds when you have pulled the trailer out of the water and allowed water to drain away from the connections. I recommend using dielectric grease # 11755 on your connections and using heat shrink butt connectors like # DW05745-5 to keep water out of the connections.

Many boat trailer manufacturers are moving to electric brake assemblies because of the easy function and cost savings compared to hydraulic components.

Then you will simply need an electric brake controller on your vehicle like the Prodigy P3 # 90195 for that electric brake function which can easily be installed with custom harness # 3016 on your 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 if you don't have the factory integrated brake controller.
