Is a Truck Sitting 4" - 5" Higher Than Older Pickup an Issue for 5th Wheel Towing

Question:

I recently purchased a new f350/ 4 wheel truck. I had a 2012 f350 with rails installed for the fifth wheel. Now, with the new truck, the truck is a bit higher, however, my concern is the towing package is in the new truck so I now have an the the fifth wheel will have to set on causing the fifth wheel to be 3 or 4 inches higher than is was in the old truck. My question is the couple inches a concern to worry about or not?

You definitely want to make sure that your 5th wheel trailer is as level as possible as that will allow all of your suspension and tires to wear evenly and safely.

To ensure proper clearance with the bed rails on your 2018 Ford F-350 there needs to be at least 5" - 6" of clearance to the bottom of your trailer overhang (see attached photo). If your taller pickup doesn't allow for this clearance you can adjust the pin box along the mounting holes, and most 5th wheel hitches, like the Reese # RP30047, have height adjustment that you can use as well.

As long as your trailer is as level as possible and you have the bed rail clearance then using a pickup that is a little taller isn't an issue at all.
